Equipment
Steps
1. Turn on your espresso machine and allow it to heat up to the recommended temperature (usually around 200°F or 93°C).
2. Weigh out 18-21 grams of coffee beans and grind them finely.
3. Distribute the coffee evenly in the portafilter and use the tamper to apply firm, even pressure. The coffee should be level and compacted.
4. Lock the portafilter into the group head of the espresso machine.
5. Place your shot glass or demitasse cup beneath the spout.
6. Start the shot by pressing the button or lever to initiate the extraction. The shot should take 20-30 seconds to complete.
7. Watch the shot as it pours into the cup. It should be a dark brown color with a thick, creamy layer of crema on top.
8. Once the shot has finished, remove the cup and discard the used coffee grounds.
9. If desired, steam milk to make a latte or cappuccino.
10. Enjoy your delicious espresso!
