Equipment
Steps
1. Boil water in a kettle and let it cool down for 1-2 minutes to around 200°F (93°C), or slightly off boiling.
2. Weigh out 40 grams of coffee beans and grind them to a medium-coarse consistency. 3. Unfold the Chemex filter and place it in the brewer with the triple-fold side facing the spout. Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any papery taste and to preheat the brewer and mug. Discard the rinse water. 4. Add the ground coffee to the center of the filter and gently shake the brewer to level the coffee bed. 5. Start the timer and pour about 80 grams of water over the coffee, making sure to saturate all of the grounds. 6. Let the coffee bloom for 30-45 seconds, allowing the gases to escape and the coffee to "bloom". 7. Begin pouring water in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards in concentric circles. Try to maintain a steady pour rate and keep the water level above the coffee bed, but not overflowing the brewer. 8. Aim to pour around 600 grams of water in total, or to reach a total brew time of 4-5 minutes. 9. Once you've finished pouring, let the coffee drip through the filter until the brewer is empty. 10. Discard the used filter and coffee grounds. Enjoy your delicious cup of coffee! |
